We’re Taught, We Learn

We’re Taught, We Learn

We’re taught
(for the most sincere reasons)
That love as we know it,
With souls collapsing into souls
Like waves crashing into waves
Is about
Equality

We learn, however
(through trial and hopeless error)
That love as we experience it
Is more like a fight
Between bully and beaten;
Inherently unbalanced.

A struggle between:
Despotic kisses smoothed
By soothing whispers,
And docile embraces

Too enamored to ever win.
